5 Things I learned About Baby Laundry as a First-time Mom

Doing your baby’s laundry can be quite a daunting task. If you think that doing your own laundry is already a tough task… wait until you deal with urine-drenched, vomit smudged, and poop smeared baby clothes!

But don’t worry about it, I’ve compiled 5 of the best tips I’ve learned doing baby laundry as a first-time mum.  Here they are:

1.) Invest in a good laundry detergent – One of the confusing things I’ve experienced as a first time mum is choosing the right detergent. I mean, all of them seem to have the same features: Hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, infused with fabric softener, etc. and the only thing that I could pick apart easily is the price.

As a quick tip, I suggest that you only buy a small packet first and test it out with a few baby clothes to check if the formula irritates your baby’s skin.  I personally prefer liquid detergents as it leaves no residues and thus easier to rinse.

2.) Number Two – For poop stains, I highly suggest that you have a small bottle of odor/stain remover with you at all times. With a small bottle at hand, you’ll be able to pre-treat stains anytime and anywhere thus making the washing process easier once you get home.

3.) Want to use fabric softener but are afraid of chemicals? Try white vinegar instead! Not only does it help soften your baby’s clothes, but it won’t damage the flame-resistant lining of baby fabrics. Just add a few tablespoons to your wash and you should be good to go!

4.) Tired of losing small baby clothing like mittens and socks after doing laundry? Use laundry mesh bags and save yourself from the hassle and $$$ of buying new baby clothing over and over again.

5.) Pre-treat oil stains using a stain remover then air-dry (it’s better if you leave it under the sun) for about 30 mins before washing it with detergent.
